A second home,on your lot.

An ADU (accessory dwelling unit) is a small, separate home on the same property as your house. For family, guests, work or rent.

Four kinds

Which ADU fits your lot.

The right type depends on the space you have, the house you have and how the unit will be used.

Detached ADU

Its own small building, usually in the backyard. The most privacy, and it changes the yard the most.

Attached ADU

Built onto the side or back of the main house, with its own entrance.

Garage conversion

An existing garage turned into a living space. Often the fastest path because the structure is already there.

Junior ADU

A smaller unit made inside the existing house, such as a bedroom suite with its own entrance.

Before you decide

The questions that shape it.

  • Where it sits, and what it looks onto
  • How people reach it without crossing the main yard
  • How water, power and sewer get to it
  • What it does to the space for a pool or patio
  • What the city or county requires on your lot

Part of the yard

Plan the ADU and the outdoors together.

A backyard ADU sits next to the patio, the planting and maybe the pool. We plan the path, the privacy and the view at the same time.
